The Power of Simply Being Available

It’s amazing how God ties moments together. A simple insight during prayer last night at church opened the door to a story from my past, a story about faith, healing, and a divine reunion no one could have planned except God Himself.

The Power of Simply Being Available

Last night at church, during prayer, we were talking about the feeding of the 5,000. And something simple hit me, that little lad with the loaves and fish didn’t hide what he had. He made himself available. He didn’t have much, but he put it out there, and that’s all Jesus needed to work a miracle.

Sometimes availability is the greatest gift we can offer. God can multiply what we’re willing to surrender.

The lad didn’t bring enough food for a crowd. He didn’t have a plan. He simply made known what he had. And Jesus did the rest.

There’s a lesson in that for all of us: let people know you’re available. Let God use the little you have. Don’t hide it. Don’t minimize it. Don’t assume someone else will step up. Miracles often begin when someone is willing to say, “Here I am.”

A Personal Story That Proves the Point

When my son Travis was four years old, he was in the hospital with a dangerously high fever. He had been there several days. The doctors weren’t sure what was going on, and it wasn’t looking good. At that time in our lives, we were attending church, but we didn’t really understand healing — and honestly, we didn’t fully believe in it at least I didn’t.

But my wife sensed we needed someone who did. She reached out to my secretary, who was Pentecostal, and she contacted one of her pastors.

I didn’t know the man who came to the hospital that night. I didn’t know his name, his background, or anything about him. All I knew was that he stepped into the room with bold faith and began to pray over my son.

Travis was being checked every 30 minutes because his temperature had been locked at 104 degrees.

Within twenty minutes of that man praying, Travis’s temperature was completely normal. The next day, the doctors released him. No explanation. No medical reason. And Travis has never been back in the hospital for anything like that again.

At the time, all I knew was that someone made himself available.

The Sovereign Reunion

Fast-forward about fifteen years.

My wife, my son, and I were in Cancun, Mexico, on a company trip. On the final night, we arrived late to a huge farewell banquet. Every table in the ballroom was full except one. Only two people were seated there, so we joined them.

We introduced ourselves and began talking. And slowly, through the conversation, we realized something incredible:

The man sitting across from us was the very one who had prayed for Travis in the hospital fifteen years earlier.

We didn’t plan it. We didn’t arrange it. We didn’t even know each other’s names back then. But God did.

When the realization hit all of us, we broke down and cried. Right there in a banquet hall in Cancun, God tied together a miracle from years before with a moment only He could orchestrate.

You cannot script that. You cannot manufacture it. You cannot explain it away.

The Sovereign God Who Still Heals

One simple act of availability can open the door for God to reveal His sovereignty in ways we never imagined. He is still the God who heals, who restores, and who brings lives together at the exact moment we need it. From the moment Travis was healed, my life has never been the same. I knew then that God was the Healer, and I have sought my Healer ever since. May we live ready, willing, and available for whatever He wants to do.
