We all have things we want in life—a new home, a successful business, financial security, or simply a sense of fulfillment in what we do every day. But wanting something and actually achieving it are two very different things.
After years of working with homebuyers, sellers, and entrepreneurs, I’ve seen one simple truth play out time and time again: those who succeed follow a pattern. It’s not luck, it’s not magic, and it’s not reserved for a select few. It’s a process. And that process comes down to three simple steps:
1. Dream It – If You Can’t See It, You Can’t Have It
Every great achievement starts with a vision. I’m not talking about wishful thinking—I mean really seeing what you want in your mind. Whether it’s a home that fits your lifestyle, a business that gives you financial freedom, or a personal goal that changes your life, you have to be able to visualize it.
Can you describe what you want? Can you picture it? Do you know what success looks like for you? If not, getting there is going to be nearly impossible. The most successful people aren’t necessarily the smartest or the wealthiest—they’re the ones who can see what they want before it ever happens.
2. Plan It – Success Isn’t an Accident
A dream without a plan is just a wish. That’s why so many people get stuck—they have big ideas, but no roadmap to get there. If you’ve ever heard the phrase, “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail,” you know exactly what I’m talking about.
But here’s the good news—a plan doesn’t have to be perfect. In fact, it won’t be. Plans are meant to be adjusted along the way. But having a clear, actionable set of steps keeps you from wandering aimlessly.
When I work with homebuyers, for example, I always tell them:
• Get pre-approved.
• Know what you can afford.
• Define what you’re looking for.
• Be ready to act when the right opportunity comes.
This is just one example, but the principle applies to everything. Map it out. Take the guesswork out of it. Give yourself a direction. And most importantly, understand that plans are meant to evolve.
3. Do It – Action is the Difference Between Success and Regret
At some point, you have to stop planning and start doing. I’ve seen countless people hesitate, waiting for the “perfect moment.” But the truth is, there’s no perfect moment. The only way forward is to take action.
Think about it like a road trip. Let’s say you planned to drive to California, but halfway through the journey, you realize you actually need to be in Detroit. What’s important isn’t that the plan changed—it’s that you were already in motion. Because you started moving, you were able to pivot, adjust, and still get to where you needed to be.
The same applies to every goal in life. You don’t have to have it all figured out before you start. Just take the first step, and course-correct along the way.
4. The God Factor – With God, All Things Are Possible
This is my not-so-secret weapon in business—and in life. With God, all things are possible. (Matthew 19:26)
I believe success is more than just strategy and hard work. It’s about seeking God’s guidance, trusting His direction, and putting your plans in His hands. Proverbs 16:3 says, “Commit your works to the Lord, and your plans will be established.”
That’s why I always encourage people—whether they’re buying a home, launching a business, or making a major life decision—to pray about it. Express your thoughts to God. Ask Him for wisdom. Listen for His leading. Because no matter how good your plan is, God’s plan is always better.
Let’s Talk About It!
I’ve spent decades helping people make big decisions—whether it’s buying a home, downsizing, or making strategic moves in business. And through it all, I’ve learned that the biggest difference between those who succeed and those who don’t isn’t talent, money, or intelligence.
It’s simple: successful people dream, plan, and take action.
So, here’s my challenge to you:
• Dream big. See what’s possible for you.
• Make a plan. Even if it’s not perfect, write down a few key steps to move forward.
• Take action. Because the sooner you start, the sooner you’ll be able to adjust, pivot, and reach your goals.
